Common Grackle

Here is a common grackle. It is a large back bird with an iridescent blue black head.  He has a purple brown body, and long black tail.  It is a long think bill and bright golden eyes.  The female is similar, only duller and a bit smaller.
The female build the nest and she has 2 broods a year. They migrate to the southern states.
They like fruits, seeds and insects and love our feeder.
They have a loud raspy call.  They hold their tail in a keel-like position during flight.  They flight pattern is almost always level. They have large muscles to open their mouths. The muscles are there for opening rather then closing as they pry open crevices to locate hidden insects.
