Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron, can get as tale 52 inches. They are a tall gray heron with black eyebrows extended into several long plumes off back of the head.  He has a long yellow bill.   The feathers at the base of the neck drow down in a kind of necklace.

The female looks just like the male.


They like small fish, frogs, insects, and snakes.

He just caught a fish. This is the most common heron, it barks like a dog when startled.   When he flies the neck is in an S shape  Their long legs trail straight out behind. They next in colonies of up to 100 birds.  Nests are in tree tops near or over open water.
