Flowers

Delphinium
There are about 250 species. They range from self-seeding annuals or dwarf alpine plants up to perennials that can exceed 8 feet tall. Nearly all start growth as a tuft of long stalked basal leaves, the blades divided into 3 to 7 segments.  The tufts elongate into tall branched flowering stems that bear stalked, 5-petalled flowers each with a backward-pointing nectar spur.
