Pseuderanthemum, Yellow-Vein
It is sometimes call eldorado. It likes full sun for compact growth and plentiful blossoms.  In the shade it becomes lanky and less colorful.It is a ornamental native to South Pacific islands. It is not indigenous to Hawaii.

On our way to Lahaina, we found a patch of yellow butterflies.

At one of the hotels we came across pink flamingos.

There was also this black swan.  I have never seen one of these before.

These flamingos are so pretty.

Orchid Tree
This tree is totally unrelated to true orchids.The tree has long, bean-like seedpods and elegant, blossoms, which burst open amid a mass of butterfly shaped leaves.  Peak flowering is in spring.

Water Lily

At this hotel, there was a beautiful variety of colors of the water lily.

Bromeliad
These plants can be found growing from the desert to the rain forest. It can be described as having stiff rosettes of leaves, Large numbers of species form tanks of water with their leaves and these types form little ecosystems that support a variety of life, inclding insects, frogs and crabs.  During  dry periods, these tanks are often used as reservoirs to quench the thirst of passing  birds.

I could not believe how many varieties of hibiscus there are.  This one is gorgeous.

Sumatra Giant Lily

Sumatran Spider lily has a fragrance.  The spidery flowers are artistic, The flowers have an erect threadlike stamen. This plant can grow to a height of 5 feet and as wide. It is a native to Sumatra, (Indonesia).

Allamanda
It is a widely cultivated ornamental vine from Brazil.  The tubular, broad-petaled flowers have deep throats and brown buds.  It was once recognized as a flower "fit for a king,"since in olden times yellow and gold were exclusively royal colors.

Banyan Tree
The banyan's curious aggregation of dangling aerial roots and multiple trunks makes it unmistakable.  These trees can be over 100 years old.
This banyan tree is in Lahaina, Maui across from the Pioneer Inn.  This tree covers almost an acre.  We have seen it continue to grow through the years.

The Preacher Man
He was a regular under the Banyan tree. He passed away in June of 2008 at the age of 66.

Some of these plants on the island of Maui are beautiful and colorful.

Birds, butterflies, and flowers

I guess I have been photographing birds, and things in nature for a long time.  A lot of it started because I am fascinated by the pink bird, Flamingo.  We were at the Lowry Park Zoo, in Tampa, Florida on May 15, 2007.  Before digital I have a lot of flamingo pictures.

Every time we have visited a zoo, I took pictures of the pink bird.

American Eagle at the Lowry Park Zoo, that was not behind fencing.  They are beautiful.

At the Brookfield Zoo, here in Chicago, there is a butterfly garden.  I love to try, (I said try) to take photos of them.

Anytime I can get to a butterfly garden, I take pictures.  I have no idea what the different ones are, I just think they are beautiful.

Several years ago I got to visit the Butchart Gardens  which is 13 Miles north of Victoria, on Vancouver Island.  This Robin was kind enough to let me take his picture.

These are just some of the miscellaneous pictures I have on memory cards.

Since these pictures were taken, I have learned a lot and gotten even better camera's.  Back in the day, I did have a 35 millimeter, that a actually broke, I used it so much.  I did all I could to keep Kodak in business.  I have thousands of pictures.  Now I take thousands of digital.
