Prescott Mills

There is a subdivision not far from where I live that has a pretty big pond.  Several birds check it out on a regular basis.
Yesterday I needed a little down time and decided to see what was there.
I love to watch the Pied-billed Grebe.  They have the softest call that is interesting to hear. 

There were at least 5 Great Egrets in various places around the pond.

One of the places I walked I saw American Coot. As I continued walking the suddenly took flight.  They did not go far though.  They hop on the water before actually taking flight.  

Somehow I manage to get the Blue-winged Teal with their heads in the water.
The pattern of their feathers is so pretty.

I felt like every Canadian Goose in the United States was here.  The park area was covered with them.  Watching them coming in for a landing is so interesting.

Killdeer were present around the edges of the pond.

Two American Finches were talking up a storm with each other.

This one was enjoying the sun.

House Sparrows are flocking up.

This one tree was full of sparrows.

Great Blue Heron seemed to be hiding from the other birds.
There were lots of Mallards along the shore area.

A closer look at the Heron, you could see Mallards resting in the background.

Latest finds

Brown Thrasher has come to visit for a few days.

Our mallard pair is back.  He is watching over her.  Not sure if they have nested, as both have been coming to our feeders.  

We have a nest builder over our front porch light.

While in Paducah, I added purple martin to my life list.

Looks like we have a robin nesting in that light fixture.

Love to see the bluebirds.  This one was posing at the Morton Arboretum.

violets are always a sure sign of Spring.

Sessile Bellwort is what I think, but now not so sure.

Spring is here!

Spring is coming

Muskrat was working and getting ready for spring.

Cormorants arrived back in March. Surely spring is coming.

Here is the cream colored mallard female.  This time she is farther south on the Fox River.

 

I was so surprised to see all of these cormorants on the Fox in downtown Oswego.

The grackles have arrived too.

And the red-winged blackbirds.  The yard can get pretty noisy some mornings. 

Four Rivers Environmental Education Center

Okay, this isn't at Four Rivers, but on one of the roads I have traveled recently.  Geese, Canadian, are everywhere!

One I got to the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon, the first birds I saw was the American Coot. I have never been to this area, and thought as long as I was in Morris, Channanon was not that far away.

I noticed movement down a hill where I was walking, and noticed this guy eyeing me.  He stayed watching me for quilt a while.

Barge along the Des Plains River

I had fun trying to photograph birds. It was a beautiful day. Sunny, and relatively warm. Lots of people were out with dogs and kids enjoying the weather.
