This is a common bird on Maui on the slopes of Haleakala. This bird was introduced to the islands in 1923 from Asia and eastern Europe. |
We did see them on our way down from the summit of Haleakala |
This is a partridge-like bird and prefers arid, open, rocky areas, from 1,000 to 11,000 feet. It is often found in large coveys during the non-breeding season. |
You can see we are pretty high up on Haleakala when we saw this bird. |
