Blue Birds

Eastern Bluebird.  This is the male from behind.  He is about 7 inches long.  I saw these birds  on my visit to Steve and Sandy's house in Atlanta, Georgia in March, 2013.

They love the suet.

Male, they say is reminiscent of its larger cousin the Robin.  He has a rusty red breast and white belly, with sky blue head back and tail.

Here is the female with the male.  She has rusty red breast and white belly, but is grayer with faint blue tail and wings.

I feel lucky to have gotten these pictures.

Male

Female

Female.  She has two broods a year of 4 to 5 eggs. The incubation time is 12 to 14 days and the female sits on the eggs. The male helps to feel the young.  It is said that the young of the first brood will help to raise the young  of the second. The male migrates north first and the female follows a week or two later.
